Updates are part of keeping WordPress healthy, but “update everything” is not a complete process. Start by knowing what changed, what the site depends on, and how you will recover if something behaves differently.
Before updating
Check the latest backup, note the current versions, review plugin compatibility, and confirm you can access hosting and the administrator account. If possible, test in staging first.
After updating
Load the homepage, key service pages, forms, login, search, and any payment or booking path. Check the browser console only when you know how to interpret it, and watch for visual changes on mobile. Record the update and any follow-up action.
